UPS volunteers spruce up Garden House

November 20, 2009

UPS associates Wayne Burdette, Dick Deats, Mike Dickman, Stewart Fischer, Joe Sanford and coordinator Lucy Martin got down and dirty at the Garden House in August.

Then in November, a second crew showed up from UPS to finish the job: Julie Crawford, Dave Daub, Angela Dunn, Laura Elmore, Paige Muessle, Beth Parsley and Bobbie Shunnarah.(The top picture shows the August volunteers; the bottom is of the November volunteers.)

These friendly, hard-working volunteers laid mulch, pulled weeds, cleaned out flower beds, and stained the handicapped-accessible ramp. Lucy said all volunteers loved working at the site and made many positive comments, including these:

"I always walk away from these opportunities thankful that I have the ability to help others."

"It was a very good day for me personally. It is a true blessing to have Zoom Group here for us."

Annie Rosenberg-Sattich, Zoom Group President, was very complimentary:
"The UPS volunteers once again gave the Garden House a magical makeover!" she said. "I am always in awe with the beauty of the property once they've finished. They have given a wonderful, selfless gift to the participants and our partners who use the grounds regularly. We can't thank them enough for their kindness and hard work."

Anna Bodart, Director of Day Programs, said she, too, was impressed. "They were eager to jump right in and get started," she said. "They worked non-stop, and we were thrilled to have them."

Deborah Farrell also volunteered with some weed-pulling time.

Thanks, UPS!
